The Design Process

Homefab manufactures building components for custom designed homes. Steel allows for a wide range of roof and ceiling styles in the design of your home. Although we have standard designs, we specialise in custom design, and prefer not to fabricate the same house twice. Steel is perfect for sloping sites, eliminating the cost to cut, fill and install retaining walls on your property. Spacious verandas and open living areas are easily achieved with steel. Homefab uses a computer aided drafting program to provide you with accurate, three-dimensional preliminary plans of your future home. This service is free.

Fabrication

Homefab has developed a Cyclone Rated Building System, incorporating Bluescope’s Zincalume® high-tensile light weight steel and Henrob’s Self-Piercing Riveting system to create a high quality, durable building product..

The result is a true and straight building component, that eliminates problems such as stuck doors and cracked internal sheeting. 

Homefab strives to make the process even easier on site. The following are a few examples of this goal: pre-bracing walls, cutting recesses for baths and showers and by pre-punching stud for plumbing and electrical.

Homefab supplies Owner Builders and Building Contractors with steel frame building components for new homes, including sub floor systems, wall frames, trusses and all the necessary brackets, fasteners and battens.

There is also the option of purchasing the components in the following kit forms: a steelwork only kit, enclosed stage kit or a complete kit.

Deliveries

Homefab will deliver your kit complete with dispatch checklist, on-site construction manual, colour coded and numbered components matching your on-site plans, and most importantly your custom designed home.

We offer a 24 hour phone service backup for any queries you may have with regard to the construction of your home.

Steel is well suited to Northern regions for many reasons. Homefab's steel products are cyclone rated by our engineer. Steel lends itself to raised floors, large open living areas and large doors and windows, which encourages cool breezes to flow through and under the house, and is suited to sloping land.

The strength and durability of steel is unbeatable. Steel allows for wide spans between load bearing walls for wide-open living spaces and provides safety from cyclones.

History of Homefab

Homefab Steel Truss and Frame was established in 1989 after it was realised that there was a growing need for steel framing in the Commercial and Housing Industry. Since it's conception, Homefab has grown from strength to strength and has established a reputation as one of the leading steel framing component manufacturers in North Queensland. We cover an area from Mackay to Mount Isa, North to the Torres Strait Islands and overseas into South East Asia.

There are no design limitations due to the strength of steel and all components are fully engineered by CMG Consulting Engineers. Homefab carried out extensive product testing with the Cyclone Testing Station at James Cook University, Townsville to ensure compliance with various cyclonic wind loadings ranging from N1, NE, N3-C1, N4-C2, N5-C3.
